Colorful Silk Thrums, Sari Yarn, Sari Strips Bags & Hemp Yarn
New today! Silk thrums are fringy remnants left over from the sari making process. They often have a selvedge of sari fabric at the edge and the remaining warp threads of filament silk in the center, and are twisted into a skein for easy handling. Use them in felting, fusing, doll making… have fun! Thrums come in a bag of assorted sizes and colors, each bag is about 3.5 ounces.
Our new Uncarded Recycled Silk Yarn is also made from Sari remnants and fiber. It is a substantial yarn, thick and firm and very colorful with bits of metallics peppered in the mix. It comes in skeins of 100 grams (approximately 30 yards).
Our Cut Sari Strips Bags are back in stock! They are bags of approximately 4.5 ounces of silk sari fabric strips. Similar to our Sari Ribbon Pieces Bags, but with chunkier pieces of sari silk (hope you’re not too confused). They are very popular and very versatile!
We also have Hand-spun Hemp Yarn, for using in mixed media projects, altered book closures, crochet, knitting, macrame. It’s firm texture makes fabulous knots, and will soften with repeated washings (makes great wash cloths). It comes in a 100 gram ball (approximately 205 yards).
Sari Ribbon Solids, Sinamay Ribbon
New today is Sari Ribbon in solid colors. This is just a few of the colors available (right now we have 13 colors). The ribbon ranges from 1/2″ to 1″ (actually sometimes even wider) wide and is generally the same color or color family. Some have two colors, sometimes the color is mottled or has a subtle pattern. It is clean and beautiful and quite thread-li-cious.
Also new today is Sinamay Ribbon. Sinamay is made from woven abaca fiber (as is Tissutex and Dyed Abaca Tissue) and is much like a stiff scrim. It makes great backgrounds for embroideries, a base for stitching, structure for 3D work, rubbings, and can be formed when moistened. We have Sinamay in 3 colors: amber (pictured), aquamarine and rain forest green.
Down Under Textiles Issue 4 is here
Down Under Textiles Issue #4 has arrived, continuing the magazine’s tradition of bringing Australia’s fiber, yarn and textils arts to the rest of us. This issue’s notable articles include info on foiling on Lutradur and lace, encrusted brooches, sari ribbon and more.
Digital Grounds, Light Molding Paste, Fiber Paste, Sari Ribbon

Golden Digital Grounds
Golden Digital Grounds (in the bottles and the sample set) allow you to easily print on nearly any flat slat surface using an inkjet printer. They are used in the book Mixed Media: New Studio Techniques by Isobel Hall & Maggie Grey.

Also used in the book is Golden Light Molding Paste for great 3D texture, and to go with that we also have Golden Fiber Paste which can turn a smooth surface into a handmade paper appearance.

We’ve also updated our Sari Ribbon Skeins with some fresh ribbons and fresh colors for spring.
New Sari Ribbon Pieces, Restocked Sari Fabric, Scrim Twists

New: Sari Ribbon Pieces Bags
They are very similar to our Cut Sari Strip Bag, but these pieces tend to be narrower, not so “hairy”, with a bit more metallics. Just a bit more refined. Each bag is approx. 3.5 oz, and 8×8″. This is a fair trade product, supporting women and families.
